IX EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE MEETING OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE SANDINISTA POPULAR REVOLUTION

EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE WITH THE SANDINISTA POPULAR REVOLUTION DECLARATION

IX EUROPEAN MEETING OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE SANDINISTA POPULAR REVOLUTION

The Committees and organizations of Solidarity with Nicaragua and the Sandinista Revolution, from Euskal Herria, Madrid, Zaragoza, Asturias, and Catalonia (Spanish State), France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, and Italy. We have gathered on October 18, 19, and 20, 2024, in Leverkusen (Germany) to celebrate our IX European Meeting, to pay tribute to the internationalist comrades Berndt Koberstein, Tonio Pflaum, and Comrade Jacinto Suarez, who was for many years the Secretary of International Relations of the Sandinista Front for National Liberation, who encouraged us to create these fraternal meetings of support for the Sandinista Popular Revolution from Europe.

After these 3 days of work, coordination, and reunions, we declare that:
1- Given the political, social, and economic changes in the world, we see the necessity of transforming towards a multipolar and polycentric world, free from hegemonies and unilateralism, devoid of neocolonial, imperial, and fascist impositions.

2- It is necessary and urgent for the emergence of a new multipolar world order, more just, more supportive, in peace, with security and well-being. The UN organization, currently an "obsolete and ineffective" body, which is under the control and interests of the USA, has lost its purpose in relation to the objectives for which it was created: to build a more prosperous, just, sustainable, and peaceful world for future generations, and none of them are being fulfilled.
2.1 Here is the case of Palestine and the Middle East, where the ineffectiveness and inoperability of this organization to dialogue, prevent, and/or stop the war are demonstrated. The UN should be working for Peace and protecting the human rights of the Palestinian population, and not being complicit in this genocide by the Zionist state of Israel.

2.2 In the case of Venezuela, where the UN Secretary-General says he does not recognize the electoral results and expresses his concern about the situation in the country after the 2024 presidential elections. Failing to recognize that Venezuela, a sovereign country, has one of the safest and most transparent electoral processes in the world, thanks to its fully automated system, auditable at all stages, ensuring precise and rapid counting, as well as the protection of the secrecy of the vote.

2.3 We demand that the USA lift the blockade on Cuba and, as a first step, remove it from the arbitrary list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

3- From the European Committee of Solidarity with the Sandinista Popular Revolution, we positively evaluate the proposal of the Chancellor of the Dignity of Nicaragua and former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, "The Reinvention of the UN. A proposal." Today more necessary than ever. Where it tells us, "none of its Member States should continue to be allowed to treat the United Nations in an abusive manner as if it were their private property."

4- On June 27, 1986, the ICJ sentenced the USA to pay more than 12 billion dollars in compensation for the damages caused by the terrorist attacks carried out by the contras, funded by the USA, against Nicaragua. Since it is an obligation subject to and established by a final judgment in The Hague. Therefore, we denounce that the United States has not complied with this ruling and the historical debt that must be paid.

5- From Europe, from our solidarity groups, we find it necessary to break the media blockade imposed by the major media outlets that are under the interests of the neoliberal system and financial power. An informational manipulation that understands reality according to the dominant discourse. That seeks to control the population in an indirect and covert manner. The system thus finds a subtle and effective way to influence society by creating rumors and false information about current events in Nicaragua, the advances and triumphs of the Sandinista Revolution, as is also the case with the Cuban and Bolivarian Revolutions.

6- By all possible means, we must make known the achievements and progress of the Sandinista government in all areas of Nicaraguan life, with its more than 40 social programs. Where improvements in public health are sought, such as the construction of 26 new hospitals, making Nicaragua the largest public hospital network in Central America, free education, houses and streets for the people, electrification that is already reaching 90% of the country, and a drinking water system to the last community in the last corner of Nicaragua, food sovereignty with peasant farmers as protagonists, eradication of extreme poverty, guaranteeing macroeconomic stability, development of human talent, consolidation of public sector goods and services, search for new markets, gender equality policy, incentives for the economy, development of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, stimulation of the self-employed economy, economy that sustains the country, being these 70% of Nicaraguan workers, among so many policies and programs. And highlight the role of women in each of the social projects and programs.

In 17 years of Sandinista Government, general poverty decreased from 48.3% to 12.5% and extreme poverty from 17.6% to 6.4% in 2023.

7- We reject all forms of interference, unilateral and illegal coercive measures, and the blockade by Yankee imperialism and its European allies against Nicaragua and other progressive governments in Latin America.

8- We continue to reaffirm the right to self-determination of peoples and the defense of their national sovereignty.

Our commitment is and will always be with the Sandinista Popular Revolution and its government of Reconciliation and National Unity, led by the FSLN and headed by Commander Daniel Ortega and comrade Rosario Murillo, as the only political option that addresses the problems and social needs of Nicaraguans, transforming Nicaragua and showing a better future.
