TeleSur: Nicaragua Ratifies the Recognition of the Result of the Presidential Elections in Venezuela The government of Nicaragua has ratified to Venezuela and the international community, the recognition of the election results on July 28. “The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of our Nicaragua, blessed, worthy, sovereign and forever free, hereby ratifies before the Sovereign People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to its Constitutional President, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and to the international community, our formal and clear recognition of the election results of 28 July.” In that statement, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, issued “our constant and consistent support, in all circumstances and in the face of the challenges of the cruel and miserable aggressions of the Empires and their lackeys, challenges and aggressions that we have shared, always winning.”

Freedom Flotilla for Gaza thanks Nicaragua President Ortega and Vice President Murillo's solidarity "On behalf of the PAL Commission, WAS, the Freedom Flotilla and the People of Gaza, we express our sincere appreciation for your decision to allow the Freedom Flotilla to sail under the flag of the Republic of Nicaragua. As always, Nicaragua stands in solidarity with the poor and oppressed of the world. We are all very grateful for this gesture! We wish you and the people of Nicaragua Peace and Prosperity."

FreedomFlotilla.org: Break the Siege ship prevented from sailing, Flotilla still determined to challenge the Blockade The Freedom Flotilla Coalition believes in fundamental rights for all, including Palestinians. Unfortunately, these values are not shared by many of the world’s governments. Our Break the Siege mission ships and crew in Istanbul have been prepared to sail for some time now, but we have been waiting for a required document from the Turkish Port Authority, granting us permission to depart from Istanbul. Without this document our vessels would be stopped and potentially detained if we attempt to leave port. After weeks of discussions with the Port Authority, it is now clear to us that such permission will not be forthcoming from the Turkish government. We have been given no explanation as to why the Turkish government will not give permission for the departure when the government has been otherwise strongly supporting Palestine. Based on our past experience, we expect that it is owing to intense pressure from the United States, United Kingdom, and perhaps other NATO countries strongly aligned with Israel.

Morning Star: 45 Years of the Nicaraguan revolution celebrated in London Carlos Arguello, Nicaraguan ambassador to the Netherlands and representative to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), who presented the case against Germany, addressed the meeting online. In March, Arguello brought charges against Germany there, alleging breaches of international humanitarian law and the Genocide Convention in its role as one of Israel’s main weapons providers in its continued onslaught on Palestine, and he reminded the meeting of the case. “Germany presented evidence that they had stopped providing weapons to Israel. So the decision of the court was that since Germany is not providing weapons, it wasn’t necessary to order them to stop.” Cuban ambassador to Britain Ismara Mercedes Vargas Walter told the meeting that the ties between Cuba and Nicaragua “transcend time.” A year after the Sandinista revolution, Cuban president Fidel Castro visited Nicaragua and said: “We do not come here to teach nor to influence. We come humbly to learn.”

Nicaragua One of the Highest in Gender Equity According to the latest World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap report, Nicaragua now ranks sixth in gender equality. The index benchmarks gender parity across four key dimensions – economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. The other countries in the top ten, according to the report, are Iceland, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, Germany, and Namibia. Britain is in 14th position and the US 43rd.

Ben Norton: Nicaragua condemns Israel, says USA should disappear if Palestine can't have a state On July 19, President Daniel Ortega blasted Western support for Israel in its war on Gaza and asked, if the Palestinian people are not allowed to have a state, why does the United States itself have the right to exist? Ortega accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, and noted that the Western governments arming Tel Aviv are complicit in its crimes. The Nicaraguan president made these remarks at an event in Managua honoring the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution on July 19. He was joined by Palestinian revolutionary Leila Khaled, who denounced imperialism and neocolonialism.
